Paris - Visitors to Paris had only a few hours over the weekend to admire the optical illusion created by street artist JR to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the glass pyramid at the Louvre Museum. The French artist pasted a gigantic paper collage in the courtyard of the Louvre, which, thanks to its breathtaking illusion, provided a view into the imaginary foundations of the pyramid; however, passing visitors trampled the image within a few hours. This was reported by the BBC.

The idea from artist JR thrilled the museum director Jean-Luc Martinez, who described it as a great way to highlight the anniversary of the glass pyramid. However, ordinary visitors did not share his enthusiasm as only those who purchased special tickets could enjoy the illusion from a balcony where the courtyard could be seen well from above.

JR and his assistants pasted the collage on 17,000 m² of pavement on Friday, but by Saturday the work began to be gradually destroyed under the steps of visitors. Nevertheless, the author faced the swift end of the project bravely and explained its ephemerality as part of the intention. "This project describes existence and non-existence, reality and memories, transience," JR wrote on Twitter.
