Amsterdam - After a six-month reconstruction, the Amsterdam Museum of Vincent van Gogh reopened to visitors today. This institution possesses the largest collection of paintings by this well-known Dutch painter of the 19th century. The museum is celebrating the reopening with an exhibition titled Vincent at Work, which focuses on his creative methods, the preparation of colors, brushes, and other tools that he used. The last painting that the curators hung today was a self-portrait in which van Gogh immortalized himself behind the canvas with brushes and a palette in hand. Other significant works on display include two versions of van Gogh's famous painting titled Sunflowers. These hang on either side of the portrait La Berceuse. In a preserved letter, van Gogh suggested that he intended to exhibit the paintings in this exact manner. The Van Gogh Museum is the third major museum in the Dutch capital to reopen to visitors after extensive renovations in a short period. The Stedelijk Museum began public operations in September after a nine-year reconstruction, and the Rijksmuseum reopened in early April after workers had spent ten years on it.
