Zlín - The Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín will present the work of architects David Kraus and Svatopluk Sládeček. The exhibition entitled In the Architect's Head / Kraus Sládeček will be open for viewing from Tuesday until February 5th, the gallery's spokesperson Barbora Mrázková informed CTK today.
The architects selected several buildings from each other's work that they admire and that are characteristic of their creation. From the individual parts of these buildings, they created collages. "For example, Mr. Kraus selected the Brdo lookout tower from Mr. Sládeček, using a part of a stone wall or a wavy part of another house," said curator Ladislava Horňáková to CTK today. These spatial collages will be exhibited in Zlín, complemented by drawings of the individual buildings of the architects.
Sládeček, a native of Zlín, is for example one of the authors of the Zlaté jablko shopping center in the center of Zlín, a multifunctional house in the Zlín district of Podhoří, or family houses. Kraus designed several family houses that often try to blend in with nature.
"Architects Svatopluk Sládeček and David Kraus belong to those architects whose work transcends conventional boundaries. They have created their own concept, which does not lose the understanding of architecture as a work of art, a volume, but also a symbol and a certain ritual. The individual buildings remain clean and simple, mostly located outside the exposed urban spaces in the 'periphery' and without the ambition to play 'big' architecture. Nevertheless, they have a high level of impact and individuality, representing quality architecture outside established patterns," stated curator Rostislav Koryčánek.
