Zlín – An exhibition at the Zikmund Villa in Zlín will commemorate the 110th anniversary of the birth of architect Zdeněk Plesník (1914 to 2003). The opening will be on Sunday, September 1, and it will be accessible until the end of November. The exhibition Architectural Heritage of Architect Plesník in the Zlín Region is also part of the Architecture Days festival, the representative of the Zikmund Villa Foundation, Kateřina Martykánová, informed ČTK today.
Plesník is the author of several buildings in Zlín, including the villas of travelers Hanzelka and Zikmund, Liška's villa, the Photography building, the Public Transport Company, and Centroprojekt. "Plesník's work is characterized by an innovative approach to the use of prefabricated materials, clever manipulation of light, and harmonious integration of buildings into the surrounding landscape. He also excels in his ability to connect aesthetics with functionality and respect the cultural context of his buildings," said Dagmar Výlupková, director of the Zikmund Villa Foundation.
The exhibition to mark the 110th anniversary of Plesník's birth will be divided into three parts. "The first part is located in the villa's garden, where information panels present his key projects in the Zlín Region. The second part, located in the library and living room, focuses on Plesník's interior work. The third part in the villa's bay window will feature drawings by students from the University of the Third Age, created during a plein air event at the Zikmund Villa," stated Martykánová.
As part of the Architecture Days, a guided tour of the exhibition will take place on September 29.
