Litomyšl (Svitavsko) - More and less successful buildings and renovations in Litomyšl, construction plans that were not realized in the past, and current planned projects will be presented from Monday, February 23, at an exhibition in the local Regional Museum. The exhibition titled The Phenomenon of Litomyšl - The Story of Modern Architecture in a Small Town will be open for people to view until April 12. The exhibition will offer a look at the architecture of the city over the last 150 years, at designs that were realized and those that were never built, at Litomyšl as it is and as it could be, said the museum director Roman Košek to ČTK. "For example, the Litomyšl theatre, which was supposed to be located in a completely different place than today's Smetana House, was intended to be on the castle hill. We also point out the place where the synagogue once stood and where there are now panel houses," Košek stated. A very interesting design from the turn of the century envisioned what the residential district would look like, which also included a district court in the city. The Litomyšl City Hall is known for inviting renowned architects to the city after 1989 and organizing architectural competitions for large projects. The most famous is probably the renovation of the former castle brewery into a training and community center for the international Christian organization YMCA, signed by architect Josef Pleskot. Successful projects also include the municipal sports hall and the roofing of the ice rink by the architectural office Burian and Křivinka. Conversely, the road I/35, which insensitively divided the city into two parts, harmed the city during the socialist past. "The exhibition will also feature designs and plans that are still being prepared, which the residents of Litomyšl can look forward to," Košek said. The exhibition pays special attention to large projects. For the first time, the public will be able to familiarize themselves with the proposal for a comprehensive modification of the castle hill, and there will also be projects for a swimming pool, the renovation of the Kotelna club, the construction of new apartment buildings, or the expressway R35.
