The exhibition of the pavilion of the Czech and Slovak Republic at the Biennale of Architecture in Venice in 2016 focused on the building of the Slovak National Gallery in Bratislava as an example of dealing with architecture of the 1960s and 1970s. One of the most significant and simultaneously most controversial buildings of the second half of the 20th century in Slovakia by architect Vladimír Dědeček from 1979 is still the subject of numerous discussions. While part of the public sees it as a symbol of the socialist era, others appreciate it as an icon of brutalist architecture.

The exhibition at DOX is expanded compared to the Venetian exhibition with an accompanying program. The key line of dance in the exhibition is to be developed through the choreographic and musical interpretation of the area of the Slovak National Gallery. On Saturday, March 11, visitors will have the chance to see the ten-minute choreographic sketch presented by the physical theater group Farma v jeskyni three times. On Sunday, March 12, the exhibition will conclude with a musical interpretation of SNG based on the "dance diagram" by Pavel Fiedler.

"We want to emphasize and deepen the meaning of the entire exhibition. It lies in the conviction that the battles over this, as well as any architecture, cannot be fought in the clashes of supporters and opponents of architecture, regardless of representatives of any camps and positions. On the contrary, battles must be transformed into 'dance of projects' and the renewal of architectural language," explains one of the authors of the project, architect Petr Hájek.

The authors also invite to a discussion on Saturday, March 12, on the topic of the area of the Slovak National Gallery as an approach to architecture of the 1960s and 1970s in Czechoslovakia.

According to the creators of the exhibition, the care for architecture and its “dance” could help return questions of architecture to the center of social interest and address urgent issues. This is seen as the legacy of Dedeček's area and the significance of this reinstallation.

The original installation in Venice and its reinstallation were prepared by the authors' team consisting of Benjamin Bradňanský, Petr Hájek, Vít Halada, Jan Studený and Martin Stoss, along with architecture theorists Marian Zervan and Monika Mitášová.
