The exhibition “The Future and Present of Prague 1”, organized for the residents and visitors of the capital city by the Prague 1 Municipal District, has already become a tradition in the autumn exhibition calendar. Last year, the exhibition relocated for the first time from the exhibition tent at Můstek to the more comfortable stone spaces of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and this year's - the 13th edition of the exhibition - will also take place here. The exhibition, which is free to enter, will be open from Monday, November 23, to Friday, November 27, daily from 9 AM to 6 PM.
The annual goal of the exhibition is to summarize what new developments have occurred in Prague 1 over the past year and to present to the public the planned projects and visions related to the development of the city center. This will be no different this year. Under the motto “Regeneration Program - A Project for the Future”, the Prague 1 Municipal District is preparing to present studies, surveys, and future outlooks concerning the regeneration of key urban spaces: among the most interesting will be the studies of the streets Na Poříčí, Dlouhá, Hybernská, Štěpánská, Jindřišská, Opletalova, or the study “Golden Cross and 28th October Street”. The exhibition will also recall the project for the revitalization of Kampa Park. Notable visions for the future include the conceptual proposal for the placement of facilities for senior housing at the so-called Šance – Strahov Walls. For future optimization opportunities of public leisure facilities, the General Sport Equipment Plan for the Prague 1 Municipal District has been developed. An interesting sports initiative is the study for floating ice surfaces for the Prague 1 Municipal District. The results of the underground survey of the Strahov Walls are also noteworthy.
As part of this year's exhibition, there will be a public screening of the film “Šancovní štola – survey”, which will take the viewer on a virtual tour through the mysterious tunnel under the Strahov Walls. Exhibition visitors will have the opportunity to vote for the most interesting study of the Regeneration Program. In the poll, they can also express their opinions on the assessment committee's judgment, which selected the proposal for the best outdoor open men's urinal. A total of 17 proposals entered the competition for this urban furniture, and the Prague 1 Municipal District evaluated a total of ten in the second round.
Mayor Petr Hejma commented on the 13th edition of the exhibition: “In recent years, the Prague 1 Municipal District has financed 27 modifications of public spaces, from small alleys to parks and entire squares. In the territory of the capital city of Prague, we were the first, in 1997, to begin systematic regeneration of the urban environment. Since then, the Prague 1 Municipal District has remained at the forefront in terms of the number and overall area of modified public spaces. Over the years of implementing the Regeneration Program, many public spaces have been significantly transformed in the area of the first municipal district, primarily in the cores of residential areas. Thus, despite the flow of thousands of cars along the main roads on the periphery of the Prague Monument Reserve, there is an almost idyllic environment at Havelské, Kozí, or Petrské squares. Our goal remains to create a calm and aesthetically balanced street interior, if possible without parked cars, complemented by greenery and urban furniture. A higher quality environment positively influences the character of the objects and services in them, as well as the behavior of people who use public spaces. The Prague 1 Municipal District has also been awarded several times for the modifications made. Notably, we received first place in the regional round of the competition “For the Best Preparation and Implementation of the Regeneration Program” for the reconstruction of the Novomlýnská Park on the L. Svobody waterfront. I am pleased that the concept of public space modifications is positively received both by the citizens of Prague 1 and the professional community. In this regard, the management of the Prague 1 Municipal District is closest to its credo: Regeneration Program – A Project for the Future,” adds Petr Hejma, Mayor of the Prague 1 Municipal District.
