Liberec – The complete renovation of the dilapidated Technik Pavilion, which is the most valuable building in the area of the former exhibition grounds (LVT) in Liberec, is set to begin this April, according to the city council. It will be transformed into a branch of the city information center. The reconstruction is expected to last about a year. The council spokesperson Jana Kodymová informed ČTK about this today. The renovation of the atypical oval building, also known as the casino, is estimated to cost around 30 million crowns, most of which the council plans to cover with European subsidies.
"The price at which the pavilion will be renovated will only be known after the public tender is concluded," Kodymová stated. The construction contract will likely be announced by the council in February.
This was the former entrance pavilion to the exhibition grounds, built in 1946 for summer use based on the design by architect Svatopluk Technik. It is now a dilapidated building that has long had no use. Due to its poor technical condition, only the basement can be salvaged; the other parts will need to be demolished and rebuilt.
"The reconstruction will create a very attractive multifunctional space that will offer the public an information center setup, including a relaxation zone and restrooms on the ground floor. The upper floor will provide a space for screenings, lectures, and exhibitions related to the activities of the information center, as well as guided tours relating to this tourist-unique location in our city," said Jiří Janďourek, the deputy mayor for architecture, public spaces, and transportation constructions (Mayors for the Liberec Region).
The pavilion stands at what is known as the Golden Cross, which refers to the intersection of Masarykova and Vítězná streets with a trio of architecturally significant buildings – the North Bohemian Museum, the Regional Gallery of Lázně, and the former Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Additionally, a promenade path leading to the Botanical Garden and zoo passes around the Technik Pavilion. "For this reason, it makes sense for the Technik Pavilion to be transformed into a new multifunctional branch of the city information center with public facilities," the deputy added.
