The MIES VAN DER ROHE AWARD 2011 exhibition is currently taking place at the Vienna Centre of Architecture. The exhibition showcases 45 buildings and a virtual presentation of 20 nominations with Austrian participation. Out of 343 nominated European projects, the international expert jury selected six buildings. The winner of the last edition was the reconstruction project of the Berlin New Museum by British architect David Chipperfield. The special prize for young architects, awarded for a significant achievement by emerging creators, was this time awarded to Ramnu Bosch and Bet Capdeferro for Casa Collage in Spain for the restoration of several dilapidated stone buildings in the historic city of Girona, which were transformed into housing. Every two years, the Barcelona foundation, in collaboration with the European Commission, awards a total prize worth €80,000 (main prize: €60,000, Emerging Architect-Preis: €20,000).
