Zlín - Current modifications of traditional Baťa houses in Zlín will be presented in an exhibition titled My Baťa House. People will be able to familiarize themselves with selected nineteen successful or interesting reconstructions through clear schemes and floor plans, accompanied by photographs of the interior spaces, the exhibition author and architect Jitka Ressová informed ČTK today. The exhibition will have two parts, the main exhibition will be located in the Baťa quarter house on Letná in Vysoká Street, while the exterior part will be placed under the Large Cinema. It will also include a workshop titled: ...how to build a wall, which is scheduled for June 1. The exhibition will begin on Saturday and will last until June 10. According to Ressová, the aim of the exhibition is to confront the former intentions of the creators with the new demands and ideas that current inhabitants impose on housing. "(The exhibition) aims to contribute to discussions about how to work with the protected area and to provoke a discussion about the current state of these buildings," said the architect. The houses with gardens and typical brick facades were home to workers employed in Baťa factories. Baťa wanted his employees not to be exhausted by commuting to work, so he ensured them accommodation as close to the factory as possible. In the Zlín areas of Letná, Podvesná, Zálešná, Nad Ovčírnou, Lazy, and Díly, over two thousand buildings gradually rose, which still give Zlín its characteristic nature today. The first houses had mansard roofs, while later ones had flat roofs.
