Prague – Today marks the start of the largest Czech design and fashion showcase, Designblok, in Prague. The theme of this year's 26th edition is youth. The event will take place at several locations, including the Museum of the City of Prague in Florenc, which has been under reconstruction since 2020. Other parts of the festival can be seen at Prague Castle, in Bastion Florenc, or at the Museum of Applied Arts. Visitors can look forward to more than 200 authors, studios, and brands. The event will also include experimental and sustainable projects, international guests, showcases, lectures, and discussions. Designblok will run until October 6.
Interested parties can visit the Museum of the City of Prague building even before its official opening, which is planned for the beginning of next year. The building has been undergoing renovations since June 2020. The exhibition halls of the newly modernized building will be filled with the festival's Superstudio, a space for exhibits from selected companies, shops, and manufacturers. There will be a particular focus on furniture, lighting, and home accessories. On the second floor, lectures and debates will take place. "The combination of modern design and the historical 19th-century museum building in Florenc is an interesting contrast that will enrich the visitors," said Ivo Macek, director of the Museum of Prague, earlier.
In the Romanesque cellar of the Old Royal Palace at Prague Castle, visitors can see an exhibition by Daniel Piršč, a Czech porcelain and ceramic designer. At the exhibition titled Whiteout, visitors will see older works as well as new pieces created specifically for this occasion. The exhibition will last until October 13. In the Riding School of Prague Castle, interested parties can look forward to the High Craft exhibition, which will feature over 30 Czech designers and brands that combine traditional crafts with innovative and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes.
At the Museum of Applied Arts, in addition to exhibitions of authors' design, there will be an exhibition celebrating the 70th birthday of Bohuslav Horák, co-founder of the Atika group. For the first time, significant works from Horák's lifelong creation, as well as collectible pieces and new objects, will be on display until October 28.
The development project Bastion Florenc will be filled with exhibitions by designers, studios, and Central European universities. It will showcase new Czech and world design, primarily through exhibitions of prototypes and small-series production.
An international jury will award the Designblok 2024 Awards for exceptional achievements on Thursday, October 3, at the Lobkovický Palace in the Castle.
