Plzeň - A valuable first-republic interior by architect Adolf Loos at Klatovská Street 19 will exceptionally be open to the public in Plzeň on September 5. The city will open the apartment on the occasion of European Heritage Days. Tickets must be purchased for 30 crowns, said Helena Prokopová from the city organization Plzeň-TURISMUS to ČTK today.

The interior designed by Loos in the 1930s is unique not only for its preserved rooms, but also for playing an important part in Plzeň's history. After the forced emigration of the original owner's family, the apartment was used as an office by the military commander of Plzeň, Georg von Majewski, starting in 1941. In the apartment, he handed over the capitulation of the Wehrmacht garrison to the American army on May 6, 1945, and then committed suicide on the spot. In the former apartment of entrepreneur Hugo Semler on the first floor of the building, the dining room, salon, and music salon have been preserved. "A peculiarity of the interior at Klatovská 19 is the use of fantastico marble cladding with a striking black and white veining, resembling fantastic creatures," Prokopová stated. The music room is particularly significant. According to experts, it is likely the last of Loos's works in Plzeň, yet it belongs to the most significant collection of Loos's realizations in all of Europe.
Interiors designed by Loos are one of the new tourist attractions in Plzeň. People can book tours of Loos's interiors at Klatovská 12, Bendova 10, and in the Brummel House at Husova 58.
The building at Klatovská 19, including Loos's interior, was used by the army from the end of the war until 1993. The Ministry of Defense transferred the entire building to the city free of charge in 2005 with the condition that Plzeň would renovate it and use it for services for residents. The city changed its plans for usage, but has not yet started the overall renovation estimated at over 90 million crowns. The city hall is currently negotiating with the ministry about the next steps.
Guided tours of the apartment at Klatovská 19 will take place on September 5 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, with the last group departing. Tickets can be purchased through the portal www.plzenskavstupenka.cz or at the Tourist Information Center in Republic Square.
