Petr Brauner - Architect, one of many - exhibition at Gallery Mini

The selection from the collection of architecture at the Museum of Art in Olomouc presents the work of architect Petr Brauner, one of many graduates of the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering at the Brno University of Technology. The generation of students from the first post-war decade passed through the hands of the best Brno architects - Bohuslav Fuchs, Bedřich Rozehnal, Jaromír Sirotek, Miloslav Kopřiva, Antonín Kurial. Despite (or perhaps precisely because of) the political purges and the dictates of socialist realism, the faculty produced morally strengthened and professionally well-equipped individuals. Just in the Olomouc region, where Petr Brauner realized a substantial part of his work, one can name several other very good architects. Good, despite the centrally controlled planning, which engulfed them, not providing ideal conditions for creative expansion.

Petr Brauner, partly by happy coincidence, partly through his own diligence and undeniable talent, consistently addressed the more interesting tasks of the then state project organizations, whether they were the Olomouc branches of Stavoprojekt or the more liberated Brno DRUPOS. The mark from his drawing board has truly indelibly etched itself into the history of post-war Moravian architecture. With the newfound freedom after 1989, with a vigor that has already abandoned many of his peers, he, together with his wife, architect Jarmila Braunerová, establishes a private design office B&B. He also enthusiastically welcomes digital design methods and revises the possibilities of current postmodern architectural forms. The richness of forms throughout his work repeatedly incorporates not only motifs but also principles of functionalism, which this school taught him so well.

It will be our honor to welcome the author of the projects, Mr. Architect Petr Brauner, at the vernissage, who will also guide the attendees on a commented tour.
