Le Corbusier
Milan Pitlach

The Brno Architecture Gallery will present the work of the most significant architect of the 20th century. Le Corbusier, whose real name was Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, was a Swiss architect, urban planner, theorist, and painter by origin. The exhibition focuses on Chandigarh, the "new" capital of the Indian state of Punjab, which, like Niemeyer’s Brazil, was built on greenfield land. The city takes the shape of a human silhouette, with the Capitol complex representing its head, which encompasses government buildings, the National Assembly, and the Supreme Court. Exhibition visitors will be able to glimpse Chandigarh through the photographs of Milan Pitlach.

“The exhibition is complemented by seven original sketches by Le Corbusier from his early period, as well as original documentation from the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts in Zlín, recalling Le Corbusier's visit to Czechoslovakia.”
state the curators of the exhibition, Tadeáš Goryczka and Jaroslav Němec.

“Le Corbusier, with his radical work and artistic sensibility, significantly influenced the development of modern architecture and is regarded as the greatest architect of the 20th century, whose legacy remains alive and inspires generations of architects and artists even today.”
adds Gabriel Kurtis, director of the Brno Architecture Gallery.

Le Corbusier described himself as follows: “I am self-taught and I am curious. I have no school, so I didn’t have to painstakingly unlearn what I would have learned there. I do not want to mix among academics, as one must not think academically. My only school is constant observation of nature and the things around us.
