Gion Antoni Caminada

On the Tuesday lecture by Gion Caminada, the very next day was followed by his exhibition at the Gallery of Contemporary Art in České Budějovice, whose curator, Michal Škoda, demonstrated superhuman performance last year by persuading the Swiss architect Miroslav Šik to come to České Budějovice to lecture and exhibit in his gallery. While Miroslav Šik is an architect primarily working in urban environments, Gion Caminada swears by the high mountain air and work for small alpine villages. In addition to their roles at Zurich's ETH, both architects share a common approach to architectural development, humility towards the craft, and closeness to traditional materials.
The Budějovice exhibition, which shares the same title as the Prague lecture 'Creating Places', was inaugurated by Swiss Ambassador Markus Alexander Antonietti. Following the introductory words of Ivana Popelová, deputy mayor of České Budějovice, there was a guided tour with the author and brilliant commentary by Miroslav Cikán, who was unflappable even by the term Das Erhabene (addressing beauty from the unknown, accompanied by horror). In addition to philosophical reflections, obligatory photographs, and several models, the exhibition also presents valuable translations of Caminada's texts 'Vrin – as a place of experimentation and knowledge' and explores the themes of his many years of work at ETH.
The exhibition at the House of Art in České Budějovice will last until June 14, 2014.
