In a nationwide poll declaring the building of the century, the Ještěd Mountain Hotel designed by architect Karel Hubáček has already received an exhibition in the past, but the 50th anniversary of its opening presents a challenge to approach this significant architecture in a new way.
The realization of today’s famous building was preceded by an architectural competition among prominent contemporary architects. In the final round, ten candidates presented their models of the new hotel and transmitter to the jury. This exhibition reflects the entire competition along with the critical responses from the public and experts regarding the selected Hubáček project. It will showcase the contemporary discussion and perspective on the architectural brief, the non-obviousness of the result, the twists and turns surrounding the construction, and the period’s-inspired starting points for the entire project. The core of the exhibition will consist of ten newly realized models crafted by experienced model makers, which will bring visitors closer to the diversity of approaches to architecture at that time. The models will be complemented by rare period photographs that the public has not yet had the opportunity to see.
