Young Blood 2004/2006
exhibition cycle monitoring young architectural studios from Central Europe
The aim of the exhibition cycle Young Blood is to map the work and overall situation of the emerging generation of architects within the Central European space - in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Poland, Slovenia, and Austria.
The essence of the project lies in the confrontation of approaches by young architects to understanding the architectural profession and its practical functioning in the respective country. Is it the same, different, or similar?
In our conception, the architect is both an artist, a sociologist, a philosopher, and a manager.
The project aims to spark a broader debate about the importance of quality architecture in everyday life and thus contribute to its popularization. We expect that through the realization of the project we will contribute to the creation of a communication platform in the field.
Individual exhibitions of the Young Blood cycle:
I'm a Young "Czeck" Architect!
I'm a Young "Slowak" Architect!
I'm a Young "Sloven" Architect!
I'm a Young "Pollish" Architect!
I'm a Young "Hungerian" Architect!
I'm a Young "Austerian" Architect!
The cycle was launched in June 2004 with the exhibition I´am a Young "Czeck" Architect!, which presented installations from twelve Czech architectural studios. The second exhibition of the Young Blood cycle is
I'm a Young "Slowak" Architect!
The entire project - which includes another six exhibitions, five of which will be presented first in the Czech Republic and subsequently in the home environment - will take place until June 2006. After the series of traveling exhibitions is completed, two of the most representative works will be selected from each of them. The exhibition of selected works will travel further under the title Young Blood Export not only through the countries involved in the project but also to other Western European countries
Selection of exhibited installations
Architects are invited to participate in the project through a call published in professional media. The selection of architectural studios is limited by an age limit: the average age of studio members must not exceed thirty-five years.
Within the concept of the exhibited object, the studios reflect their experience with architectural practice in their country. Based on the submitted scenarios, CCEA curators will select the most interesting responses and invite the studios to realize them. The concept of the installation and its processing are not further limited by CCEA curators.
The task of the invited studios is to react in the exhibition space of 3.6 m3 to the statement I'm a Young (modifier according to country) Architect!. The name of each country deliberately contains a spelling mistake, which each studio can interpret in its installation and thus express its position on the situation of the young architectural scene in its area of operation. The installation must be easily packable into a transport container measuring 1.2 x 1.0 x 0.5 m.
The exhibition presents installations from five Slovak architectural studios: Ampula Atria Atelier Atelier Milieu u/s/a [united slovak architects] zerozero
During the project preparation, CCEA curators found that approximately 10 to 15 studios operate in Slovakia within the specified age limit. A large part of the young generation is leaving for work and careers abroad, which is evidenced by the composition of the Slovak part of Young Blood - three of the five exhibiting studios operate outside the Slovak Republic.
The printed catalog accompanying the exhibition documents not just the presented installations but also the realizations and projects of the exhibiting studios. The text section presents profiles of individual studios and a selection of their realizations and awarded competition projects, including complete contact information.
