Exceptional wooden buildings aim for the roof

Bílovice 519 will showcase the best from the Czech and Slovak architectural scene Bringing closer their utility and aesthetic value and placing them in the context of sustainable construction. It is with this ambition that the traveling exhibition of the Wooden Building Salon was created. After installations in Prague and Bratislava, 39 realizations will be on display in Bílovice near Uherské Hradiště. The exhibition at the Egoé company site carries the subtitle Wooden Buildings on Wooden Buildings. This reflects the fact that it is a place where wooden structures are designed, manufactured, and utilized. The vernissage will take place on October 19.

The Wooden Building Salon project annually offers the most interesting in the field – presenting exceptional projects, showcasing cutting-edge technologies, and their applications in architecturally attractive buildings. It serves as inspiration for investors, architects, contractors, developers, and the general public. It opens topics concerning the use of ecological materials and responsible lifestyles through wooden constructions for housing, industry, and the public sector.

The vernissage will take place on October 19, 2023, at 5:00 PM, and the exhibition will be accessible at the Egoé site at Bílovice 519 until January 2, 2024. More information at www.poledesignu.cz.

Wooden Buildings on Wooden Buildings
In Prague, the exhibition of the Wooden Building Salon was installed at the piazza of the National Theatre, in Bratislava at the Gallery of the Slovak Architects' Association. In Bílovice, the project will target even higher – to the flat roof of one of the buildings. „It’s an attractive space, and moreover, there is symbolism in it. The object, which houses offices, conference rooms, and showrooms, belongs to the category of large multifunctional wooden buildings,“ says art and architecture historian Dan Merta, who is responsible for the exhibition activities at the Egoé site.

Egoé, which also designs and manufactures outdoor furniture, furniture systems, pergola systems, and small-space housing, has been utilizing wood for nearly thirty years. Like most other producers who monitor the longevity of their products, they also work with tropical wood, which is very durable. „However, its logistics are associated with a significant carbon footprint. Therefore, we invested in a thermal modification line, in which common European wood gains some properties of tropical wood,“ says production director of Egoé Luděk Látal.

A selection of berries and a debate at the wooden table
Part of the project Wooden Buildings on Wooden Buildings includes accompanying events. This mainly involves an excursion to see the best examples of wooden buildings in Slovácko and Valašsko. It is intended for both professionals and the general public. It is planned for October 19 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. During these five hours, participants can see examples of good practice, specifically the headquarters of Kloboucká lesní in Brumov-Bylnice, the Parish Center in Lidečko, the lookout tower in Vysoké Pole, and the Ulita house and administrative building in Bílovice.

From 5:30 PM, a professional debate will await interested parties in Bílovice, featuring architect Kamil Mrva, owner of Kloboucká lesní Vojta Dorňák, architect and managing director of the studio Prodesi/Domesi Pavel Horák, and Radek Hegmon, chief designer and owner of Egoé. „In the debate, we want to open a crucial topic that so far has not resonated enough – that the path to true sustainability leads through quality. And that, whether we talk about materials, design, or construction solutions, is certainly not cheap,“ points out Dan Merta.

What do wood and fields have in common?
The exhibition Wooden Buildings on Wooden Buildings is organized as part of the Pole design platform. The aim is to create a multifunctional space at the site of the former agricultural cooperative in Bílovice that offers inspiration. This includes both permanent and temporary exhibitions dedicated to design and planning, examples of public space solutions, artistic workshops, or gatherings at events directly on the site and the adjacent campsite. The Pole design is supported by the Egoé holding, which took over the entire area years ago as a brownfield and is gradually giving it new functionality.
