Brno - The final exhibition of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award is one of the main attractions of autumn in Brno's galleries. It returns to Brno after four years and this time people will find it at the House of Lords from Kunštát. The House of Art is preparing a large exhibition of Czech comics. The Moravian Gallery will follow the traces of modernity and showcase photographs from the second half of the 20th century, as reported by ČTK from museum and gallery officials.

The Jindřich Chalupecký Award is the most significant award for young visual artists in the Czech Republic. This year, the contestants are Adéla Babanová, Vladimír Houdek, Richard Loskot, Jiří Thýn, and David Böhm with Jiří Franta. The final exhibition will start on October 25, and the jury will announce the result on the last day of November at the Husa na provázku Theatre.
Fans of comic book aesthetics will head to the House of Art at the end of September for the exhibition Signals from the Unknown - Czech Comics 1922 to 2012. The exhibition's authors claim that until recently, no one in the Czech Republic seriously addressed the development of comics, although it has interestingly reflected the transformations of society and culture since its inception. "The purpose of the exhibition is to place a series of phenomena that have been forgotten or perceived in isolation into a broader context and present them to a wide visiting public," the creators stated in the introductory note to the exhibition.
The Moravian Gallery will be "occupied" until October by the exhibitions of the International Biennale of Graphic Design. Another major project will be called In the Footsteps of Modernity. "It includes three exhibitions at the Museum of Applied Arts. The main one is dedicated to the ornament in decorative art," said gallery spokesperson Martina Vašková to ČTK. The accompanying exhibitions will present the work of architect and designer Josef Hoffmann and Moravian ceramics in the art deco style. All three exhibitions will ceremonially open on November 30.
At the end of the calendar year, the Moravian Gallery will once again allow visitors to glimpse into its photographic collection, one of the largest in the Czech Republic. The exhibition Element F at the Pražák Palace will close the trilogy of exhibitions dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the collection. This time, the curators will select photographs from the second half of the 20th century. In December, the House of Art will also give space to the photographic medium. It will present the work of photographer Vojtěch Dukát, who originates from Brno but works in the Netherlands.
The Wannieck Gallery, the largest of the private galleries in Brno, will showcase the work of well-known artist Petr Nikl and his mother Libuše Niklová in October. "From Petr Nikl, there will be paintings and objects; from Libuše Niklová, toys," said the gallery director Petra Lekešová to ČTK.
