Biennial of Experimental Architecture in Prague is an international platform for mapping current trends and methods of architectural design that respond to the changing world of new philosophies and technologies. Its aim is to revive interest in architectural thinking that transcends the closed boundaries of local evaluative criteria.
Experimental architecture is an alternative to mainstream construction. It utilizes new technologies and draws inspiration primarily from nature and the microcosm (e.g., the structure of shells or crystals). However, it does not only represent prototypes or visions but also buildings that often become popular icons, arousing interest from the general public precisely because of their shapes. Among the realizations, we find public buildings such as museums, galleries, scientific centers, schools, train stations, airports, as well as administrative buildings or housing (the railway station in Innsbruck, the port authority building in Antwerp, the BMW factory in Leipzig, the university of economics in Vienna, the transport museum in Glasgow, the Serpentine Gallery pavilion in London, etc.).
