KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION announces already the 6th year of the conceptual architectural competition on the topic of the use of modular spatial systems. The competition is intended for university students focusing on architecture or civil engineering, but also for graduates of these fields within three years of completing their studies!
The theme of the sixth year is Design of a Senior Home in Prague's Strašnice
The task for the participants is to present a design for adequate housing of contemporary standards for a clearly defined narrow target group of residents. The goal is to examine the possibilities of modular construction in the process of creating a friendly human environment. The object is designated for a specific location, but given the advantages of modular architecture, which include speed and simplicity of construction with a predominant dry process, recyclability, financial accessibility, flexibility, mobility, and ease of modification, it can be assumed that the design may indicate some universal solution and approach to similar types of buildings - creating a new (arche)type of social housing.
Thanks to the aforementioned values of this type of prefabrication, which allow for a very quick response to the needs of society, modular architecture holds a distinct place in today's changing world, and this position will be increasingly reinforced in the future. We are already witnessing an increase in the use of modules for the communal construction of kindergartens, starter apartments, etc. Technology, quality of solutions, and design will continue to develop with the contribution of inspirational student visions.
Successful young architects, proponents of awarded competition designs, were provided by KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION in previous years not only with financial rewards but also publicity through exhibitions of works at the FOR ARCH Prague, IBF Brno, CONECO Bratislava fairs, at the Days of Architecture in Bratislava, and publication in professional journals and architectural websites. A summary of awarded works is also part of the ČKA yearbook.
KOMA MODULAR CONSTRUCTION will also present successful works to investors who can select a design for subsequent realization after consultations with other experts. In this case, the KOMA company commits to collaborate with the author/authors of the design on a business basis.
