The winner of the competition for the bus station in Dvůr Králové is the M2AU studio from Brno.

Dvůr Králové nad Labem – The winner of the architectural competition for the restoration and utilization of the bus station in the sixteen-thousand strong town of Dvůr Králové nad Labem in Trutnov is the Brno architectural studio M2AU. In the first round of the competition held in spring, the jury evaluated six proposals, and four advanced to the second round. According to Mayor Jan Jarolím, the construction of a modern bus terminal near the city center is one of the city's priorities.

The nearly one-hectare area of the station was purchased by the city from Arriva at the end of 2019 for 9.9 million crowns. Last year, the parties agreed on the purchase of the dispatch building and the adjacent land for 4.95 million. The city estimates the cost of the planned reconstruction to be 70 million crowns excluding tax. The city wants to seek a subsidy from European funds for the construction.

"The design of the bus terminal (by M2AU) preserves and utilizes the existing building and the surrounding valuable greenery while developing and strengthening pedestrian and cycling connections to the open countryside," the city hall stated. The creators chose a proportional character for the terminal in relation to the size of the city and the frequency of connections and appropriately solved the parking of personal vehicles, according to the jury.

The city hall will now negotiate with the authors of the winning proposal about the terms of the contract for the preparation of project documentation, both for the building permit and for selecting the contractor and implementing the construction. The parties will also negotiate the price and deadlines.

In addition to urban planning, transportation, and landscape solutions, the jury of the architectural competition also evaluated the suitability of the proposal in terms of investment and operating costs. "The proposals also needed to appropriately integrate the area into the city center, connect to the space of 17. listopadu street, and address parking and layover areas," stated Deputy Mayor Jan Helbich.

The proposal from the Prague studio mackovič architecture came in second, and the third place was awarded to Ateliér DPK from Brno. The city hall will distribute 750,000 crowns in rewards to the top three. All competition proposals will be exhibited by the city hall in the Mayer factory building in the second half of September.

In recent years, several towns in the region have opened modern bus stations. In July 2020, Jaroměř in the Náchod region opened a terminal costing nearly 70 million crowns. In 2020, Nová Paka in the Jičín region built a terminal with a departure hall for 65 million crowns. In 2018, new bus stations were opened in the towns of Hostinné in Trutnov and Broumov in Náchod.
