Dvůr Králové nad Labem – The sixteen-thousand-strong Dvůr Králové nad Labem in the Trutnov region will announce an architectural competition for the renewal and use of the bus station area. The city has owned the station area since the end of 2019 and this year purchased the remaining properties located within it. According to Mayor Jan Jarolím, the construction of a modern bus terminal is one of the priority actions of the city hall.
"The revitalization of the bus station will significantly affect the appearance of the broader city center. I believe that based on the architectural competition, we will receive a number of quality proposals and projects," Jarolím stated today.
The city estimates that the design work could cost around seven million crowns excluding VAT, and the actual renewal of the bus station could amount to 70 million crowns excluding VAT. The city hopes to secure funding from European funds for the construction.
Architects should sensitively integrate the station area into the city center. It should appropriately connect to the space on 17th November Street and also address parking and stopping areas. The site should be connected to cycling paths.
Contestants will be required to design a passenger terminal, with the proposals also needing to include parking space with a capacity of approximately 20 places and also a secure area for bicycles. "Originally, we requested up to 50 parking spaces; however, due to the anticipated investment costs, this capacity was reduced. Additionally, there has been a significant increase in the prices of construction works and materials," said the mayor.
The proposal should address the concept for the entire area, allowing architects to suggest other functional uses of the area or buildings within it. "However, a condition is that the bus station can be realized independently in the first phase of the revitalization," Jarolím added.
The bus station area, covering nearly one hectare, was purchased by the city from the transport company Arriva at the end of 2019 for 9.9 million crowns. This year, both parties agreed on the purchase of the remaining properties. The city will pay 4.95 million crowns for the dispatch building and the adjacent smaller plot of land.
Modern bus stations have been opened in several cities in the Hradec Králové Region in recent years. Last July, Jaroměř in the Náchod area opened a bus terminal for nearly 70 million crowns. Last year, Nová Paka in the Jičín area constructed a bus terminal with a departure hall for 65 million crowns. In 2018, the new bus stations were opened in the towns of Hostinné in the Trutnov region and Broumov in the Náchod region.
