The winner of the Interior of the Year competition is the house of builder Unger in Znojmo

Znojmo - The absolute winner of the fourth annual Interior of the Year competition is the redesign of the house of builder Johan Unger in Znojmo. The project, created by Barbora Hora, Jan Hora, and Jan Weisser from the studio ORA, excelled among 175 interior projects divided into seven categories.

"The jury particularly appreciated the fact that the interior works appropriately with colors and emotions. The space conveys a sense of humility and is furnished with sensitively selected furniture. The interior of the Unger house is not primarily based on trends, yet it offers a number of surprising moments," said Kateřina Kutnohorská from the Institute of Interior Design, which organizes the competition annually.

The architects are also the owners of the house from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Luckily for them, the previous owners did not drastically renovate the house, thus preserving most of the elements such as windows, doors, cement tiles, stucco, fittings, and railings.

"The house required adaptation to current living comfort, which meant implementing new installations. However, the condition was to interfere as little as possible with the existing structures. Therefore, the architects did not touch the ceilings and floors. The roughly scraped walls gradually revealed their paintings, and the authors decided to leave them as such. All textures and motifs were only complemented by the white color of the plaster on the walls, which were impacted," described the project Kutnohorská.

The winners were chosen by the jury in categories for private apartments - new builds, private apartments - renovations, public interiors - restaurants and hotels, and public interiors - shops, services, and corporate interiors. In addition to the main award, a journalists' prize and a general partner's prize were also awarded, which went to the projects Hotel Chateau Clara Futura in Dolní Břežany near Prague and a family house in Malá Skála in the Jablonec region.
