Jirkov (Chomutov District) - The proposal that won the student architectural competition for the best development plan for the area in the center of Jirkov envisions the demolition of the Tesco hypermarket and fuel station, to be replaced by more valuable construction. The city announced this competition last spring. The radical solution proposed by ČVUT student Tomáš Cach was preferred by the jury over the other two proposals, said deputy mayor Jaroslav Cingel to journalists today.
The winner will receive 50,000 crowns, while the other two participants in the competition will receive 5,000 crowns. "The proposals are not binding for the city, but they will certainly serve as a basis for discussion. The residents of the city together with the representatives will be able to view them on February 18 at the cultural center and express their opinions. After that, we will publish the proposals in the city hall," Cingel stated.
According to him, the city will have a study prepared next year that should address the concept of development in the city center. "It will primarily consider the opinions of citizens but also those of experts. I expect that the author will utilize the stimulating proposals of all three participants in the architectural competition," Cingel added.
Cach's proposal also includes, for example, the reconstruction of Dvořákova Street into an urban boulevard with residential development, or in the adjacent area of Olejomlýnský park, the establishment of a public park for sports activities and relaxation.
