The Trutnov city hall is currently finalizing the announcement for an open urban planning and landscape architectural competition for the design study of the regeneration of the Zelená Louka housing estate. The results are expected to be known by the end of November.
At the beginning of August, the city of Trutnov will announce the competition titled Revitalization of the Zelená Louka housing estate in Trutnov. The goal is to obtain the highest quality proposal for the urban and landscape architectural solution for the largest housing estate in Trutnov. The materials are based on an extensive public survey conducted by the city hall in 2022, which clearly identified the problems that need to be addressed. “The planned regeneration of Zelená Louka will take several years given the scale of the entire area and will involve multiple design teams. To ensure a cohesive outcome and to avoid unnecessary duplication of functions or their complete omission within individual projects, we need conceptual documents that will set the tasks to be addressed in the given area, as well as unifying elements to be used. These documents will include a territorial study and a manual of basic principles. It is also essential to ensure the long-term acceptability and credibility of these documents. Therefore, we decided to announce an open urban and landscape architectural competition with a transparent evaluation method and independent experts on the jury,” explains Michal Rosa, mayor of the city of Trutnov.
The single-round competition pertains to public space, meaning that buildings are not being designed. The task of the territorial study will primarily involve addressing all modes of transportation and parking. The work with greenery, emphasizing the improvement of its quality, better utilization of courtyards, and management of rainwater will also be important. The city hall is also expecting innovative ideas aimed at enhancing the quality of life for all generations of residents. The manual of basic principles for the use of the urban study will define individual details, such as appropriate types of paving, furnishings, and plantings.
Two representatives from the city will sit on the jury of the competition – Mayor Ing. arch. Michal Rosa and Deputy Mayor Mgr. Tomáš Eichler, along with three independent representatives from the professional public – Ing. arch. Josef Smutný, landscape architect Ing. Jana Pyšková, and Ing. arch. Vratislav Ansorge. Additionally, the jury will have so-called invited experts on competition, from the fields of transportation, engineering networks, and public space research.
The total costs for the competition will be approximately 3.6 million CZK and will cover the preparation of the study and manual, prizes for the competitors and the jury, as well as the invited experts. Results are expected to be known during November.
