Liberec - The competition for the design of the transportation terminal with a parking garage in Liberec was narrowly won by architect Petr Stolín. The committee assessed six proposals, none of which received unequivocal support. This was stated to reporters by the mayor of the city, Tibor Batthyány (former ANO).
According to the mayor, Stolín's solution to the traffic situation tipped the scales in his favor. "He had it best developed," said the mayor. Stolín's proposal does not have to be the final version. "It is flexible enough that it may undergo some changes as other experts and city councilors provide their input," Batthyány said. The city will now have project documentation prepared, which is estimated to cost six million crowns.
The new terminal with parking is expected to be built by the town hall near the bus station by 2019, with most costs covered by European subsidies. The estimated cost will be around 150 million crowns. The completion of the bus station in Liberec has been discussed for a long time. In the mid-1990s, only the platform area was modernized, and bus drivers and passengers have been using only temporary construction units. A new check-in hall with a parking garage for 220 to 300 cars should provide them with decent facilities.
For the design license, the winning architect will receive over 430,000 crowns. The town hall will also reward other architectural studios that participated in the competition. Deputy Mayor Jan Korytář (Change for Liberec) previously stated that each would receive 80,000 crowns. The town hall contacted the studios directly, even though it initially intended to announce an open architectural competition. However, it could not agree with the chamber of architects on the amount of rewards for the best proposals. According to the chamber's rules, the city was supposed to distribute about 1.5 million crowns among the best entries, which the town hall management considered an unreasonable amount given the project's scope.
