Přerov - The neglected Freedom Square near the center of Přerov could potentially undergo renovations in the future. The city council of Přerov has decided to enter an architectural competition for the Peter Parler Award aimed at reconstructing this area. If the city is successful, it could receive free project documentation for its restoration. "We would like to renovate the square in a historic spirit and create a peaceful, relaxing zone here. It used to be a pride of Přerov, which it hasn't been for about 40 years now. We would like to do something about it," said city hall spokesperson Bohuslav Přidal to ČTK. He noted that Freedom Square is the only public space in the city that does not yet have detailed project documentation for reconstruction. "It is a considerably neglected area, particularly regarding the protection of urban greenery. It has always been a green square and it should remain so," added the city hall spokesperson. The city hall is vying for the Peter Parler Award for the second time. Last year, it was unsuccessful. The architectural competition, which is taking place for the fourth time, is organized with the consent of the Czech Chamber of Architects by the Society of Peter Parler. The goal of the competition is to contribute to the humanization of urban environments and to eliminate insensitive technical solutions. In the previous year, 39 cities entered the competition.
