Prague – The Prague 3 municipality has announced an architectural competition for the design of a new kindergarten, which is to be built in place of the existing building on Jeseniova Street. Today, the spokesperson for the district, Zuzana Křížková, informed ČTK about it. The current kindergarten is in poor condition, and the municipality plans to demolish it. The same applies to the nursing home on Pod Lipami Street, which is also to be demolished, and a new one will be built in its place. According to earlier information, the municipality also plans to announce a competition for its design.

The current kindergarten on Jeseniova Street has a significantly disrupted structure, and it will be replaced by a new building with six classrooms for 150 children. The municipality wants to open the new kindergarten in September 2024, with an estimated cost of 90 million crowns. "The new kindergarten building should be located approximately on the site of the current structure, so that the large school garden in the southern half of the plot remains preserved in relation to the orientation to the cardinal points," the competition brief states.

Participants can submit their designs for the competition until August 13, and a jury composed of representatives of the municipality and independent experts will evaluate them. The municipality collaborated with the Czech Chamber of Architects (ČKA) in preparing the competition. The chairman of the expert jury is architect Jiří Opočenský, and it will also include architects Adam Halíř, Markéta Zdebská, Lenka Míková, and Alena Mičeková. In total, Prague 3 will award participants in the competition 750,000 crowns.

Some time ago, the municipality also announced an art competition for the design of a water feature, which should be located by the historic staircase from Táboritská to Chelčického Street, where a water pump once stood. That pump disappeared around the turn of the millennium, and the municipality has been unable to trace what happened to it. The new structure should reference the original pump and draw from the atmosphere of old Žižkov.

According to earlier information, there are also plans to announce a competition for a nursing home to be built in place of the current one on Pod Lipami Street. The capacity of the new house is expected to double to about 50 beds, replacing the current two-story building with a two to three-story one. In addition to the residential part, the new facility will include a day center and a multipurpose hall or café. The municipality estimates the costs at 80 to 100 million crowns.
