Prague – The Council of Prague 3 has approved the winner of the architectural competition for the new nursery school on Jeseniova Street. The design by the team of architect Radka Kurčíková won. This was reported by the spokesperson for the municipal district, Zuzana Křížková, in a press release from ČTK. The nursery will be built at the site of the existing one, which the city hall says is in poor condition and will be demolished. The winning team will now prepare the documentation for the building permit for the city hall.

The current nursery on Jeseniova Street has, according to the city hall, significantly disrupted statics, and it will be replaced by a new building with six classrooms for 150 children. The city hall aims to open the new nursery in September 2024, and a large school garden will be preserved. The jury of the competition, organized by the city hall in collaboration with the Czech Chamber of Architects in May, included representatives of the municipal district and independent experts.

"We will advantageously orient all classrooms toward the southeast sun while also providing an intimate view of the entire garden space, bordered by mature trees, which naturally separate it from the surrounding city," said Kurčíková, the co-author of the design. She added that outdoor education will be ensured by terraces connecting the interior with the garden. According to her, it was crucial to create diverse internal spaces while also designing a shape-simple compact building, which, according to the city hall's information, was appreciated by the jury.

The third municipal district also announced a competition in the summer for a senior citizens' home, which is to be built on the site of the existing one on Pod Lipami Street. The capacity of the new home will increase to about double, with 50 beds; the current two-story building will be replaced by a two- to three-story one. In addition to the residential part, the new facility will include a day center and a multipurpose hall or café. Some time ago, the city hall also announced an art competition for the design of a water feature that should be located near the historic staircase from Táboritská to Chelčického Street, where a water pump used to stand.
