Pardubice - The Pardubice Region today announced the results of the regional competition Building of the Year for the third time. This year, it awarded a modern family house in Heřmanův Městec and a lookout tower in Červená Voda in the Orlickoústecko region. The award is intended to highlight the buildings themselves and motivate architects and builders to produce quality work. Ivo Toman, the governor and chairman of the commission, told ČTK today.
"By announcing it, we will make, for example, the lookout tower in Červená Voda more visible, so that people will take a trip there, look around, climb up, and enjoy not only the view but also the beautiful building," Toman said.
The construction industry should present itself more to both the professional and lay public. A similar competition will also draw attention to the problem of workforce shortages in the industry and the low interest of youth in technical fields in general, said commission member and head of the Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Technicians active in construction in the Pardubice Region, Vlastimil Moucha.
The region selected from 13 submitted projects and awarded prizes in four categories, specifically the title Building of the Year was awarded to two projects, and four buildings received honorable mentions.
The lookout tower on Křížová Hora won in the category of Civil Engineering Structures. This wooden structure became a landmark in the wide surroundings last year, and the municipality spent over seven million crowns on it with the support of the EU and the region. The lookout tower features a ground-level open gallery topped with an arch roof, where cultural events and services are held. The viewpoint is at a height of 25 meters.
In the category of Houses for Living and Family Houses, the family house in Heřmanův Městec was the most favored, and an honorable mention was awarded to a newly constructed family house in the village of Miřetice in the Chrudim region. According to the jury, the house in Heřmanův Městec was excellently integrated into the surroundings and is primarily built from natural materials, including stone and wood.
"I drew inspiration from nature and my travels. I travel quite a bit in Southeast Asia, in Asia. I also have many years of experience with natural materials, my company has been working with stone for 18 years," said the owner of the house, Vlastimil Nešetřil.
An honorable mention was also awarded for the final stage of the reconstruction of the former sugar factory in Chrudim, in the category of Industrial, Agricultural and Water Management Structures. In the category of Transportation and Engineering Structures, honorable mentions were given to projects such as the intersection at Staré Čívice and the bridge on the local road in Líšnice across the Divoká Orlice River.
The region awards prizes every two years. Previous editions include awarded residential buildings in Sokolovská in Lanškroun in the Orlickoústecko, the acute medicine pavilion at the Svitavy hospital, or the completion and reconstruction of the Regional Library in Pardubice.
