Ostrava announced an architectural competition for Artistic Street

Ostrava - Ostrava has announced an architectural-urban competition for the revitalization of the Art Street area near the House of Art in the city center. Interested parties can submit their designs to the open anonymous competition until mid-February, said Andrea Vojkovská, spokeswoman for the city council.

"The subject of the competition is the development of an architectural-urban solution for the Art Street area, which forms the forecourt of the House of Art, creates a significant public space, and serves as a platform for the Elektra tram stop. It is an idea competition aimed at finding the most optimal use and face of this place," the spokeswoman noted. The competition should also demonstrate how to address supply and static transport in the area, namely parking and car parking, and take into account the planned extension of the House of Art and the completed reconstruction of Nádražní Street.

"Those interested in participating in the competition can find the competition conditions and materials on the City of Ostrava's website www.ostrava.cz in the Architectural Competitions section or on the website of the Czech Chamber of Architects www.cka.cz," Vojkovská added.

The area for which the competition has been announced adjoins one of the main pedestrian entrances to the historic core of the city, Zámecká Street. The land in the area is owned by the city. Designs should also include the layout of potential artworks, urban furniture, lighting, or greenery. The proposals will be evaluated by a jury composed not only of city representatives but, above all, architects. The first prize is associated with a reward of 100,000 crowns.

Ostrava recently decided to announce several architectural competitions. They are meant to resolve, for example, the future shape of the square Msgre Šrámka near the renovated Cathedral of the Divine Savior in the city center or the appearance of the historic slaughterhouse. Architects are also expected to propose the design of a new footbridge over the Ostravice River, which would connect the tourist-frequented Lower Vítkovice area with the city center and cycling paths around the Ostravice.
