Ostrava - Ostrava announced the first architectural competition of this year. City councilors decided on Tuesday to announce a public contract for the author of the competition proposal for the construction of a residential building at the intersection of Kostelní and Biskupcova streets in the city center. Mayor Tomáš Macura (ANO) told reporters today.

According to the competition conditions, the cost of the building, which will be built by the central city district of Moravská Ostrava and Přívoz, should not exceed 120 million crowns excluding VAT. It is planned to have about 40 rental apartments, primarily of sizes 1+KK and 2+KK, but also several three-room apartments. The building will be located on the site of the current parking lot and collector.

"We hope that the gap will be filled with an architecturally valuable building. I remind you that this is an important location on the site of the former medieval city gate, through which people entered the city," said Macura. According to him, although the district will be the investor, the city has asked for assistance in organizing the architectural competition.

Authors should submit their proposals to the city by March 7, and the competition should be evaluated by April at the latest. An unlimited number of interested parties can submit proposals. Foreign participants can also register for the competition. Following the results of the architectural competition, a contract will be awarded for the preparation of project documentation, the cost of which should not exceed six million crowns excluding VAT. The city would prefer a building with two levels of underground parking at the site, where spaces for commercial purposes would also be reserved.

According to Macura, nearly 200 rental apartments could be created in the city within four to five years. In addition to this project, construction is also planned near the Ostrava Museum, where nearly 90 apartments are to be built. Another 26 apartments are planned in the upcoming Residence Janáčkova near the former city slaughterhouse, and the city intends to renovate two townhouses for housing at Střelniční 8 and Husova 7. In both of these locations, about ten city apartments should also be added.

"One of the goals of the current city leadership is to revive the historical center of the city, which cannot be done without strengthening the residential element. We have indeed registered an increased interest in living in the center, and we want to support this trend, both the city and the city district," said the mayor.
