Prague – Štvanická Bridge in Prague, the family care pavilion at the Pelhřimov hospital, and the multifunctional sports hall Kapka in Vsetín have been awarded the title of Building of the Year 2023 in this year's 31st edition of the competition organized by the Foundation for the Development of Architecture and Construction. The jury selected the winners from 38 nominations.

The residential building Oáza in Liberec, the medical center of the Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Plzeň, the competence center of the Baumit company in Brandýs nad Labem, and the bridge in Litomyšl can also boast the award in the form of a crystal bottle starting today. However, the jury was also impressed by the reconstruction of St. Mark's Church in Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou, the visitor center of the family brewery Bernard in Humpolec, the construction modifications of the Red Church in Olomouc, the extension of the Supreme Audit Office in Prague, and the renovation of the tram depot Slovany in Plzeň. Another awarded project was the Epo1 contemporary art center in Trutnov.

For the Štvanická Bridge in Prague, which connects Holešovice with Karlín, the jury praised the durability of the structure, which they noted is more than twice the standard. In the case of the family care pavilion in Pelhřimov, they highlighted features such as the surface of the façade that changes under the impact of sunlight. The Epo1 contemporary art center in Trutnov impressed the jury with its genius loci, which stems from the originally industrial character of the project.

During today's celebratory evening, many special awards were also presented, such as those from the Ministry of Regional Development (MMR) and the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO). The MMR award was given for the construction of a new university campus in Ostrava at Černá louka, while the MPO recognized the Křimická city ring road in Karlovy Vary and the Kloboucká Forest administrative building in the Zlín Region.

This year, the jury consisted of architect Jan Vrana, architect Martina Hovořáková from Vsetín, Professor Zdeněk Jiran, engineer Renata Zdařilová, and Associate Professor Jan Pašek. They personally visited all 110 registered buildings in the Czech Republic, taking them 15 days and covering a total of 6,531 kilometers, as noted during today's award ceremony. Two buildings from abroad were also entered into the competition.
