The city of Opava announces a competition for a senior citizens' residence

The city of Opava announces an architectural competition for the design of a guesthouse with a capacity of 50 separate residential units. These are small-sized apartments with barrier-free access and an evacuation lift typical for care services. The housing will serve seniors and there will be the possibility of field services by doctors and nurses.

The guesthouse will be located on Hálkova Street in Opava - Kateřinky. Competition proposals should also address the urban placement of the guesthouse, pedestrian connections, and an adequate number of parking spaces. The following aspects are specifically required to be addressed in detail:

• the separate residential unit will be partially barrier-free (only the sanitary facilities), organized into an entrance hall, sanitary facilities, a living room, and a loggia or balcony,
• effectively solve the layout of the living room with a kitchenette, private sanitary facilities, entry hall, living room with a kitchen unit with an electric four-burner stove, pantry, refrigerator, dining area, versatile seating set, loggia or balcony,
• the sanitary facilities will spatially allow for the placement of a barrier-free shower corner, toilet bowl, sink, washing machine,
• each apartment will be connected to separate measuring units - water, electricity, heat,
• in the basement, construct a storage room, cleaning closet, cellar compartment, drying room, exchange station, and a common room for 25 seniors with a kitchenette.

A site inspection is planned for November 25. Questions related to this competition can be submitted until December 9. The organizer has one week to respond, until December 16. The deadline for submitting competition proposals is set for January 30, 2012. The competition announcement is tentatively scheduled for February 28.
