Liberec - The Liberec Region will announce an architectural competition on Thursday for the revitalization of the area around its headquarters in Liberec. Architects are expected to propose modifications to the green spaces around the office, parking solutions, and potentially a new bridge. This should ensure access to the office across the Nisa River, and if necessary, emergency rescue vehicles or even the president's car will be able to pass over it. The costs for the implementation of the plan are estimated at 64 million crowns excluding tax. The entire project is expected to be completed in this electoral term, by 2020, said Governor Martin Půta (STAN) to reporters today.

The Liberec Region purchased the remaining buildings and land in its vicinity from VÚTS (formerly the Research Institute of Textile Machines) in 2014 for 125 million crowns. The former administrative building is now being converted into the European House for 93 million crowns, and the renovation of the former workshop building is also being prepared. They also want to revitalize the area around the office, which is considerably neglected. "We want to expand the greenery," said Půta. According to him, part of the concrete surface of the parking lot should be expanded to create a green oasis. Parking along the Nisa River is to disappear, and the canceled spots should be replaced by a parking garage.

"The subject of the competition is the preparation of an architectural-landscape design for modifications to the public space around the headquarters of the Liberec Regional Office. We expect the involvement of the regional headquarters into the structure of the city, accessibility of the river and its active integration into the public space, cultivation of the area surrounding the regional headquarters with an emphasis on high-quality landscape solutions, as well as an analysis of the current state of the connection between both banks and a proposal for a new solution," added Deputy Governor Marek Pieter (Starostové pro Liberecký kraj).
