The KCEV building in Vrchlabí designed by Doc. Petr Hájek received an Honorable Mention in the 11th edition of the International Competition for Ecological Architecture. The project was entered into the competition, organized by the significant international construction company Fassa Bortolo under the auspices of the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Ferrara in Italy, at the direct invitation of the organizer.
Judges Gianluca Frediani, Roberto Di Giulio, Thomas Herzog (chair), Muck Petzet, and Philippe Samyn appreciated the incorporation of Doc. Petr Hájek's object, who also leads a studio at the Faculty of Architecture of CTU, into the monumentally protected park and its environmental friendliness. The Gold Award was won by the Onomichi U2 project in Hiroshima from nine awarded buildings. Nearly 1,000 buildings from 30 countries across all five continents have participated in the competition over its duration.
Hájek's KCEV from 2014 is a laureate of the 2014 Piranesi Award, was nominated for the European Mies van der Rohe Award 2015 for the Czech Republic, and is a holder of the domestic Architecture Week Prague 2014 Award and the Building of the Year of the Hradec Králové Region 2014.
The award will be presented to the authors and investor on July 9, 2015, in Ferrara, Italy.
