Bakala Foundation, in collaboration with Design Museum, London, announces the first edition of the architectural student competition Kaplický Internship. The winner will have the opportunity to undertake a three-month internship at one of the leading architectural studios in the UK. “We want to provide the youngest generation of architects with an interesting work experience as well as essential contacts. The author of this year’s best design will gain experience at Eva Jiřičná's London studio,” says Václav Pecha, director of the Bakala Foundation. “The purpose of the competition is also to commemorate the work of Jan Kaplický, who would have celebrated his 78th birthday these days,” adds the foundation's director. The competition is intended for recent graduates from the following faculties: ČVUT Prague – Faculty of Architecture, VUT Brno - Faculty of Architecture, TUL - Faculty of Art and Architecture, VŠUP – Department of Architecture, ČVUT Prague – Faculty of Civil Engineering, VUT Brno – Faculty of Civil Engineering, VSB Technical University of Ostrava - Faculty of Civil Engineering, AVU Prague - Field of Architectural Creation. The theme is not specified; it is individual. The competition is announced as non-anonymous, in three rounds, and graduates submit conceptual studies. Visitors to the exhibition “Jan Kaplický Drawings” can also remember the works of Jan Kaplický in the coming weeks, as it moves to the Prague Trade Fair Palace from the Architectural Association Gallery in London. The exhibition is open from April 11 to June 16, 2015. More information and application for the competition can be found at www.bakalafoundation.org.
