The National Gallery announces an open call for the proposal of architectural and scenographic solutions for a new exhibition. The National Gallery Prague announces an open competition for the proposal of architectural-sceneographic solutions for the new exhibition of art and architecture from the second half of the 20th century on the 2nd floor of the Trade Fair Palace. The proposal should include a graphic solution for the exhibition, accompanying programs, publications, and promotional materials. The new exhibition focused on Czech art and architecture after 1939, which has been in preparation for several years, is expected to open on the 2nd floor of the Trade Fair Palace in November 2022. The project aims to connect a representative overview of Czech art from the period of 1939 – 2019 into one functional whole through exhibits and documents from the collections of NGP, everyday objects, and a rich audiovisual material primarily from the years 1958 – 1989. The architecture will also be presented in the exhibition in the form of models. The announcement of the open public competition is the first significant step towards the realization of this ambitious exhibition. The deadline for the first round of the competition is August 4, 2021. The conditions for application are published on the NEN portal. The winner will be announced on September 17, 2021. The artistic exhibition on the 2nd floor of the Trade Fair Palace follows the experimental approach of the already opened permanent exhibitions 1796–1918: The Art of the Long Century and 1918–1938: The First Republic, and it complements the missing part of the timeline up to the present day. This period aims to depict itself in maximum complexity and among other things emphasizes the existence of gray zones in the art of that time. The architecture exhibition focuses on the still controversially perceived architecture, as well as on the socialist lifestyle in Czechoslovakia, where everyday experiences and encounters intersected with architecture and design as creative disciplines.
