Vrchlabí - Three entities submitted bids for the tender of the Krkonošsko National Park Administration (KRNAP) for the renovation of the Krkonoš Museum in Vrchlabí. This is already the second competition for the construction work contractor. CTK was informed today by the park's spokesperson, Radek Drahný. The estimated value of the tender is 83 million crowns. Today, the envelopes with the bids were opened.
"We received three offers. I cannot provide any further details, as the selection committee is yet to meet," Drahný stated.
The museum, which belongs to KRNAP, is located in a former Augustinian monastery and has been closed since the autumn of 2017. The selected company will be responsible for the construction part of the project. The total costs, including the establishment of a new exhibition, are estimated at over 200 million crowns. The contractor for the exhibition will come from a different competition. By the end of 2021, a visitor center for KRNAP is expected to be created in the facility after the transformation of exhibitions.
The start of the museum renovations is delayed by about a year compared to the original plans. KRNAP wanted to have a selected construction contractor by the end of last year and to start construction work in the spring of this year. According to the management of the national park, the European grants of 123 million crowns for the project are not at risk.
The second competition was announced by KRNAP this summer because in the previous tender, all bids from companies significantly exceeded the then-expected price of 65 million. The offers exceeded 100 million crowns. In the second tender, the original date for opening the envelopes was moved from September 20 to October 8. The reason was a reduction of the budget from 110 million crowns to the current 83 million crowns. KRNAP representatives previously told CTK that the reduction of the anticipated price was driven by current market prices and that the newly set price corresponds to expected offers.
The renovated museum with a new interactive exhibition is expected to serve as a representative gateway to the Krkonoš for visitors. The exhibition should tell the story of nature and people settled in the mountains and build upon the successful exhibition "Stone and Life." The visitor center is expected to provide information about the past and present of the Krkonoš in the most comprehensible manner and to motivate people to explore the mountains and protect them. It should also take on the role of a traditional museum.
