Prague - The State Prize for Translation was awarded for lifetime achievement to Helena Stachová. The Ministry of Culture award for contributions in the field of theater was received by Jan Schmid, in the field of music composer Luboš Sluka, in the field of visual arts Jana and Jiří Ševčík, in the field of architecture Růžena Žertová, and in the field of cinematography and audiovisuals Hynek Bočan. The awards were presented yesterday at the New Stage of the National Theatre.

Visual artists Jana and Jiří Ševčík received the award for lifetime achievement, particularly for their exceptional curatorial, theoretical, and pedagogical activities. They were also recognized for their international promotion of Czech and Slovak visual arts.

Architect Žertová also received an award for her lifetime achievement. She designed several department stores in different cities across the country. Since the 1970s, she designed fashion accessories, jewelry, and lighting. In 2016, her work was summarized in the monograph Růžena Žertová: Architect of Homes and Things.

Minister Staněk will not award one of the Ministry of Culture awards for contributions in the field of cinematography and audiovisuals, for which the jury proposed director Schorm posthumously as one of two laureates. However, his family refused to accept the award, as they do not agree with the government formed with the support of the communists. The jury that proposed Schorm for the award stated a few days ago that if the minister does not award it, they will resign. "The jury is convinced that the posthumous award for Evald Schorm should be granted, even if no one personally accepts it, as a gesture of recognition of the life and work of a great film creator, who was prevented by the communist regime for many years from continuing his work as a film director," the jury members wrote in their statement on October 18.

The State Prize for Literature was also not awarded, as its laureate Jiří Hájíček refused to accept it. This is related to the disagreement of some members of the literature award jury with the policies of the ANO and ČSSD government with the support of the communists. The poet Petr Hruška was the first to resign from the jury selecting the literature award laureate, followed by three other members. However, they had already proposed a candidate to the minister before resigning. The proposed Hájíček then informed the minister that he would not accept the award, explaining that the jury members who resigned had politicized the award.
