Dear members of the association Za krásnou Olomouc, its supporters, and other engaged individuals,
after two years, we once again reach out to you with a call to participate in the fifth year of the Rudolf Eitelberger Award, which the association Za krásnou Olomouc intends to present again this year. The goal of this symbolic award is to draw attention to those interventions in the organism of historical Olomouc that positively and successfully influenced its changing appearance between 2015 and mid-2017. We fulfill one of the goals of the association, which is to promote and inform the public about the architectural and urban changes in Olomouc and the entire Olomouc region that affect the architectural, cultural, and urban values of the affected locations. The name of the award bears the name of a prominent figure, the Olomouc native Rudolf Eitelberger von Edelberg (April 17, 1817 - April 18, 1885), one of the initiating figures of modern art history and, among other things, the founder of the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna (now Österreichisches Museum für angewandte Kunst).
We would be pleased to have as many interested parties as possible, whether residents of Olomouc or those who care about its fate, participate in the discussion and submission of proposals. This activity of the association, while symbolic in a way, helps deepen the discussion and thought about the cultural and architectural values of our city and the cities of the entire Olomouc region. You can send your proposals and suggestions until June 30, 2017 to the address below; additional contacts are also available. The suggestions from members of the association and the broader public will be evaluated by a seven-member committee made up of association members and external experts. The nominated projects will be announced in September 2017, and the winning project will be ceremoniously presented as part of the Day of Architecture festival on Sunday, October 1, 2017. On the occasion of this year's celebration of the 200th anniversary of Rudolf Eitelberger's birth, the restored memorial plaque on Rudolf Eitelberger's birthplace will be ceremoniously unveiled on Monday, October 2, 2017, and the Department of Art History at the local university, in collaboration with the Museum of Applied Arts in Prague, will hold a colloquium on Rudolf Eitelberger.
