Prague - In the competition for the construction of the northern entrance to the botanical garden in Prague-Troja, the design of the Fránek Architects studio led by Zdeněk Fránek won. He proposed a building with a floor plan composed of curves. The spokesperson of the garden, Klára Hrdá, informed ČTK today. After incorporating structural and technological details into the design, costs are expected to reach up to 200 million crowns excluding VAT.
The project includes the construction of ticket counters, a refreshment building with an outdoor terrace, and social facilities. The garden expects this change to increase attendance to 600,000 people annually. "As part of the competition, a system of buildings was to be designed, including the necessary network of paths, supplementary greenery, and other elements that create a comprehensive architectural and landscape solution for the area," Hrdá stated. The garden announced the competition in July this year.
The essence of the winning design is an object based on a geometric spatial curve that represents the significance of the garden and its functions. Visitors will find a café, a restaurant, a souvenir shop, a lecture hall, a subtropical greenhouse, parking, and more. The relocation of the main entrance will also relieve the overloaded Troja area around the zoo.
The botanical garden in Troja is a contribution organization of the capital city. It is visited by 300,000 people annually. Its operation costs around 70 million crowns per year.
