Benešov - The architectural competition for the modifications of Masaryk Square and Malý Square in Benešov is reaching its final stage. The jury has selected the best designs, which will be discussed by the city council next week and then published, informed ČTK Jana Uhrová from the Benešov city hall.

The competition was announced this February. It involved 14 teams from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and even Germany. "Behind this number are at least 56 architects, urban planners, engineers, and other professionals who together devoted more than 21,000 hours of work to this task," Uhrová stated.

According to the city hall, the square should become a natural center where people will feel comfortable, can take a walk, sit down, and have a coffee. The city center, according to Mayor Petr Hostka (ČSSD), has needed renovation for a long time. The main problem is overgrown greenery and a lack of seating areas.

Other cities are also repairing their squares. Similar architectural competitions have been announced in the past by Lysá nad Labem in the Nymburk region or Hostivice near Prague.
