Prague – The Railway Administration is preparing another architectural competition for the design of a high-speed rail terminal in Roudnice nad Labem. The terminal will be on the planned route from Prague to Dresden. The Czech News Agency (ČTK) informed about this today in a press release from the Railway Administration. The organization had previously held an architectural competition for the terminal Prague-East in Nehvizdy.

The future terminal is part of the planned section of the high-speed line VRT Podřipsko and is expected to be located near the existing Roudnice nad Labem airport. It will serve not only the residents of Litoměřice but also other parts of the Ústí nad Labem Region and northern Central Bohemia. Passengers should be able to reach the center of Prague from the terminal in about 20 minutes, and the new line is also expected to reduce travel times to Ústí nad Labem, Dresden, Brno, Ostrava, and Vienna.

According to the Railway Administration, the upcoming architectural competition should yield an optimal solution for the terminal and its surroundings. It should include, for example, a parking lot for 3,000 cars, bus platforms for integrated transport in Ústí and Central Bohemia, and a connection of the terminal to the nearby D8 motorway. To ensure smooth operations on the new high-speed railway, architects will also look for a solution for the maintenance base of the rapid transit in the vicinity of the terminal. The administration will collaborate with the Czech Chamber of Architects during the architectural competition.

The first architectural competition for the design of the rapid transit terminal was already organized by the Railway Administration at the turn of last year and this year. For the terminal Prague-East, the proposal of the authors Jiří Opočenský and Štěpán Valouch was selected. The terminal will be part of the rapid transit between Prague and Brno, the first section of which is expected to start construction in 2025.

The terminal will be part of the planned section from Prague Běchovice to Poříčany. This is among the most advanced projects within the preparation of rapid transit in the Czech Republic, as the administration has announced a contract for the preparation of documentation for zoning proceedings. The state is now preparing sections of high-speed lines from Prague - Běchovice to Poříčany, as well as from Přerov (Prosenice) - Ostrava - Svinov on the main route between Prague, Brno, and Ostrava, the section Brno (Modřice) - Vranovice on the route from Brno to Vienna/Bratislava, and also two sections between Prague and Dresden.

The construction of high-speed lines should significantly increase the capacity of the current railway network and also speed up connections on busy routes. Discussions about construction in the Czech Republic have been ongoing since the 1990s, but preparations only began in recent years.
