“Linear time is a creation of the West; time is not linear, it is a wonderful tangle in which points can be chosen and solutions devised at any moment without a beginning and without an end.” Lina Bo Bardi
In the first decades of the 20th century, architect Le Corbusier proposed that the house be a "machine for living." However, these spaces were considered from a male, Western, bourgeois, heterosexual, and able-bodied perspective that overlooked everything that did not fit into this nomenclature. Women and the feminist movement have thus traveled a long road lasting several decades to gain feminist space in architecture and urbanism and prioritize different ways of building our world.
At the end of the 1950s, Brazilian architect Lina Bo Bardi began working on various projects. Based on the above-quoted phrase “Without a beginning and without an end,” the exhibition emphasizes the idea that architecture and feminism are two areas for more sustainable, egalitarian, and just habitation of space. It presents designs from architectural studios that work in this field and works by visual artists who reflect on spaces as more or less friendly places and on how to construct alternative spaces.
Approaching something as everyday as architectural spaces that take into account the perspectives of those who have traditionally been ignored and proposing more egalitarian alternatives.
