Exceptional location in the southern part of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. Essentially an undeveloped mountain landscape. The exception is only a few scattered farmhouses. The land itself adjoins a paved road from the upper side and consists of a wild mountain meadow that descends into a wooded, shaded ravine with a flowing stream.
In the original mountain atmosphere, we also sought the core of the design together with the clients. The process was not easy, as it was significantly influenced by the administration of the Protected Landscape Area of Beskydy with its rigid building regulations, which greatly complicate creative or innovative approaches.
The initial thoughts were not related to space and mass, but to the material, which would represent the context and be the key conceptual guide. Concrete and larch wood. How to best utilize the characteristic properties of these largely contrasting materials with minimal means?
Weight and lightness. Concrete embodies a heavy hollow platform, partially embedded in the earth's surface with an almost cavernous atmosphere. It conceals larch cabins for bedrooms and service spaces of the house.
On this piece of rock, we then supported two lightweight larch slabs against each other, which form a freely flowing space between them with open views of the mountain scenery.
The surrounding untouched landscape around the house passes almost unnoticed. The concrete will gray, grow moss, and the larch wood will acquire a gray-silver patina with age, while the access path made of sandstone stones will fade into the meadow grass.
The interior of the house is a homogeneous part of the whole and forms a single compact monolith.
