Vienna Twin Tower

The new urban quarter Wienerberg on the southern edge of the city has transformed the skyline of Vienna with its high-rise buildings. Two rectangular towers, partially connected by bridge structures, rise on a two-story base with a trapezoidal floor plan. They define the end of the southern highway leading into the city and simultaneously create a new city edge that is visible from the center.
The towers differ not only in height but also in width. They are rotated relative to each other at an angle of 59 degrees. A driver passing these towers experiences tension as the two buildings constantly interact with each other. One tower disappears, the other re-emerges, a gap appears between the towers, and both merge into a single object. Thanks to the full-height glazing, the corners of the building vanish, and the solid structure becomes just a skeleton wrapped in translucent skin. This unique transparency transforms the towers into crystalline bodies that allow for a free view of their inner cores.
The two-story plinth of the Twin Tower consists of continuous atriums that partially extend down to the 2nd underground level. They expand around both towers and above the multi-cinema block on the eastern side of the building. Their uses are as diverse as their spatial composition. They function as the main vestibule, entrance to the office towers, a lobby named "flying carpet" on the 1st floor, a gastronomic area, or a cinema foyer.
Despite the divided functions, everything is ultimately connected by a single spatial continuum that allows the user views and sightlines into the surrounding areas, facilitating navigation within. Large skylights in the ceiling of the two-story plinth reveal the towering structures above. From every point in the public space inside, thanks to the transparent façade, there are also views to the surroundings of the building.
The monolithic block of the multi-cinema with ten halls partially extends to the 4th underground level. Its upper edge is at the 1st above-ground floor. Therefore, visitors can cross this block to reach the Shopping Park and then exit onto Wienerbergstrasse.
