The interior is located in the center of Brno, on Zámečnická Street near Dominican Square. The space was originally home to a boutique interior that the investors wished to revitalize, change, and supplement.
The main theme of the assignment was to change the offered range of goods from original clothing to authentic designer handbags and shoes. Due to the client's close ties to Italy, the overall assignment received a certain motif, which was reflected in the implementation concept.
The basic theme became the definition of the contrast between the luxurious world of the offered goods and the architectural articulation of the transferred visual theme - old rural Italian villas.
Despite the original conditions of the assignment, there was a complete remediation of the existing layer of the interior, where the space distinctly defined itself in the offered theme through its basic tectonics and structural composition.
All wall surfaces were covered with a hand-applied rough glazed plaster that provides the space with the necessary visual accent and a natural contrasting character.
An important unifying motif is the application of the flooring layer in the same visual and color scheme as the walls. The floor mass freely transitions into spatial stair "patios," which, through their geometry, model the basic level composition of the interior.
The natural material and spatial scale was provided by the installation of solitary interior objects made of solid beam wood up to 6.4 m in length.
The solitaire "sales counter" is freely supported at its center of gravity and forms a balancing console in its mass that metaphorically evokes the feeling of the shop's name, Vertigo.
For lighting, the original spot "downlights" were visually recycled and supplemented with a linear spectrum of fluorescent sources.
The overall atmosphere of the space was to be enhanced by a fireplace, which particularly in the winter season was meant to bring the atmosphere of the introduced concept closer.
The realization of the Vertigo interior determined several themes, among which I consider the theme of what is possible and feasible within the short given time, the theme of principle completion, and artisanal feasibility over the overall ambition set by the realization process.
