In Prague's Dejvice, everyone would like to live. However, a good location is not enough. What our ancestors established in response to their needs, we often want to articulate differently today. Living in the right place then becomes a challenge that needs to be evaluated in a corresponding way. Our clients also posed one such challenge to us.
Dignifying a fading layout composed solely of a series of rooms along a single facade connected by a huge dark hallway does not have a simple solution. We preferred a version that allows us to utilize the monumental sixteen-meter sightline through the entire apartment. Its focal point consists of a seating area under the bookshelves and a kitchen with a dining area, while at the opposite ends, the children's and parents' bedrooms wink at each other. The parental bedroom maintains its intimacy thanks to a walk-in closet and a private bathroom, even though it directly connects to the living space. In the dark hallway, we inserted a large bathroom and twisted the entrance to the apartment so that it did not require an additional separated vestibule, yet was completely secluded from the events on the building's staircase. In the interior, we elegantly inscribed the noble optimistic character of the house from a unique period of the early 20th century, within which the apartment is located. The facade and the public interior of the house are conceived with period artistic care. The coverings of the heating units are therefore inspired by patterns from the building's railing, the pointed cladding reflects the window stucco, and the upholstery quotes the design on the building's doors, while in the smooth surfaces, just like on the simple facade of the house, the nobility of the essence is emphasized - oak veneers and lacquered surfaces in subtle shades.
The apartment had its windows replaced, and all the surfaces, including the composition of the non-load-bearing floor and the floor of the loggia, were realized, with a new infrastructure implemented. The furniture is custom-designed for the apartment, from the bed, bookshelves, climbing frames to the dining table. Behind one backrest under the bookshelf, a mattress is tucked away, which can be used to expand the seating into a large bed. The entire apartment is completely accentuated by a brass line inscribed into the base of the floors, the legs of the tables, and the furniture.
